Music has been in Steve’s blood all his life, developing an interest from a early age. It saw him performing as DJ at The Wynnum Tavern in his teen years to providing sound equipment to many local and high profile events. Recently he has branched out providing local music supplies with the closure of his neighboring business, The Wynnum Music Centre. Steve continued his interest in music during his twenties working for BJ Sound Lighting in The Valley with servicing and sales for AV’s and sound systems for clubs across South East Queensland.
Steve, along with his wife, has run Tru Blu Trophies & Engraving since 2014. The pair invested in the business following time off due to Steve’s motorbike accident. Located on Bay Terrace, mid-way between Wynnum and Manly it has played an important role in the community. They added Tape Convertors to provide year round business and a valuable service to reclaim memories from old video tapes, cassettes and 8mm film.
He sees both young and older customers come in wanting to preserve special memoires, some that often bring them to tears. Many come with stored precious memories of loved ones prior to their final farewells. Over the years Steve has branched out to service many smaller jobs both in business and the community. He worked for 15 years at the Gold Coast Turf Club providing the sounds for races such as the Magic Millions and ensuring the National Anthem was broadcast at the essential times. In 1994 he volunteered for the Gold Coast Indy and continued for several years managing track communications. He has fond memories of being on the grid with driving stars such as Max Pappas.
Locally Steve has volunteered on many Manly Harbour Village events setting up the initial Movies in the Park with Lota PCYC. He was also key in keeping the communications flowing for the famous Halloween Street Parade each October. He has been an active Exectutive member of the Manly Chamber for many years and in 2022 his volunteering work has been recognised with a Scope Australia Day Award.
A Manly West local for most of his life, Steve loves the water and gets out on his jet ski for fishing whenever he can. He sees good future for the Bayside with Manly having huge tourism potential. With further investment in building he can see Wynnum CBD to thrive even more. April 2022
